Spanish bureaucracy guides
Step-by-step, plain-language guides to the most common procedures expats face in Spain. Each guide is grounded in official sources and updated when the rules change.
How to respond to an AEAT requerimiento in Spain
What an AEAT requerimiento means, how to find the deadline, and how to prepare a clear response through the official tax-agency route.

Find who recognizes your public-health entitlement, then use the correct autonomous-community route for the Spanish healthcare card.

Use the official cita previa extranjería service only when your procedure and office are enabled. Select the province, responsible authority and exact procedure shown, then save the justificante. If no appointments are available, official help says availability depends on each office and to check later; it gives no universal release time.
Renew a TIE in Spain: residence authorisation or card only
Renewing a TIE can mean two different things. With a temporary permit, renew the residence authorisation first using its Ministry procedure; after approval, request the new physical card from Police. With long-term residence, expiry normally triggers a card-only renewal. Use the date and document list for your exact route, not a universal checklist.
Certificado de concordancia: link your old NIE to your DNI
An official certificado de concordancia shows that your former NIE and current DNI belong to the same person after Spanish nationality. If your first DNI is pending, bring your TIE or EU registration certificate and ask the unit. If you already have a DNI, confirm the Police unit, appointment route, documents, form and fee before paying.
Spain digital nomad visa 2026: income and requirements
Spain's route is for third-country nationals not covered by EU free-movement law whose qualifying work can be performed remotely, exclusively through digital and telecommunication systems, for companies outside Spain. Apply through your consulate from abroad or the UGE while regularly in Spain. In 2026, the main applicant's official monthly income reference is €2,442 gross.
Spain's asylum red card: what the document proves
“Tarjeta roja” is the familiar name for a document showing that someone is an international-protection applicant. It is not an asylum decision, residence permit, TIE or travel document. For applications formalised from 12 June 2026, follow the official name, validity, restrictions and work wording on the document rather than assuming the older white-then-red sequence.
Spanish nationality file status: official check and when to act
Use the Ministry of Justice status service with your NIE, expediente number, year and date of birth. It shows the file's current phase, but the Ministry says this screen is not a notification. Do not calculate a deadline or predict completion from the status label; follow the actual requerimiento or resolution sent to you.
Padrón without a fixed address: which route fits your situation?
No rental contract does not automatically mean you need the no-fixed-address route. Register at the real address where you usually live if the council can verify it. A social-services address is the exceptional route for someone with no usable address who habitually lives in the municipality and is known to municipal social services.
NIF for foreigners in Spain: what it is, NIE, CIF, and how to apply
A NIF identifies people and entities in tax-related dealings. For a foreign individual, it is normally the NIE already assigned. If you have no NIE and will carry out a tax-relevant transaction, Spain's Agencia Tributaria (AEAT) can assign a NIF; it is temporary if you later obtain a NIE. "CIF" is the old name still used for company NIFs.
Which courses count for arraigo socioformativo?
A course can support arraigo socioformativo only when the exact training and provider fit an official category. The standard list covers specified post-compulsory secondary education, complete Grade C professional certificates at levels 1–3, in-person adult compulsory education, and qualifying public-employment-service training. Verify the course, centre and delivery mode before paying.
Which Spanish immigration office handles your procedure?
Do not choose an office from the words NIE, TIE or extranjería alone. Open the official information sheet for your exact procedure and check where and how it must be filed. Then use the OEX directory, Police finder, UGE site or responsible Spanish consulate.
